Ian creates abstract, rhythmic works on paper that combine glyph patterns in pastel and colored pencil, with multi-color ink washes. He also makes intricate, torn, paper collages by first creating an ink washed background, then tearing paper he has previously painted into small squares and adhering them onto this substrate in a grid pattern. He is prolific, focused and methodical in his practice, oftentimes creating 3 or more works of varying sizes in a studio sitting.
