"We believe that creative thought and expression is a universal right - without rules, restrictions, or cultural boundaries. Our studio is an inclusive space that upholds this belief and our philosophy is rooted in a total respect for individuals and their communities, and in the foundation that all people have a unique artistic voice that deserves to be heard."

Art Explorers is pleased to present A PROGRESSIVE ENSEMBLE, a group exhibition highlighting artwork from eight national art studios supporting artists with developmental disabilities (progressive art studios). Co-curated by the studio artists at Art Explorers, this exhibition is a celebration of the vibrant communities of artists participating in progressive art studios throughout the country and the contributions these individuals are making to the contemporary art world.

This exhibition is made possible through a partnership with our friends at the Mendocino Art Center, and features artwork across mediums including painting, works on paper, weaving, and sculpture. It is a pleasure to share this world of creativity with Mendocino County on the 25th anniversary year of the Art Explorers studio art program.

Los Angeles Public Library Opens New Exhibition“Looks Like Home to Me: Inside the Progressive Studios”Showcasing Artworks by Artists with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities.

LOS ANGELES (June 16, 2025)—The Los Angeles Public Library presents Looks Like A Home to Me: Inside the Progressive Art Studio, an exhibition of artwork by more than 100 artists who have developed their artistic voices in studios across the region that provide special support for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The exhibition will be on view in Central Library’s Getty Galleries, 630 W. Fifth St. from June 21 to Dec. 7, 2025.

A progressive art studio is a creative space that provides inclusive, individually-tailored opportunities for artists—often individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities—to explore and develop their artistic voices in a professional, supportive environment, with other artists and mentors. Studios offer resources, tools, and staff to encourage artistic growth and meaningful engagement within the broader art world.
